Mora35: A Timeless Expression of Design in a Postwar Building

Residential Design by Sculpta

The age and modernist bones of the building inspired the timeless design it exudes today, through simple but rich in texture materials we brought the building in contemporaneity whilst honoring its age and heritage.

A small space, hidden in a postwar building in an aristocratic residential neighborhood, has been transformed into a stunning residential design known as Mora35. The architects at Sculpta discovered the space untouched, with yellowed walls, dusty terracotta stoves, and solid wood flooring that retained the air of yesteryear. With the client's desire for a timeless aesthetic and the comfort of a smart home, the architects embarked on a design journey that would honor the building's heritage while infusing it with contemporary elements.

In order to define the spatiality of a two-bedroom apartment within just 52 square meters, the design team focused on limiting colors, textures, and materials that could clutter the space. The result is a harmonious blend of natural materials, including wood, brass, and white walls, that define the space and create a sense of unity.

The interior decor appears simple at first glance, with white walls, doors that carry their own texture, and a unifying wooden floor. However, upon closer inspection, discreet details emerge, adding uniqueness to the space. A brass plinth creates a negative space where the wall meets the floor, giving the illusion of holding the weight of the wall. The play of light on the plinth produces reflections that follow a continuous, perimetral path, enhancing the visual interest of the space.

The design also features doors without sills, emphasizing the height of the space and creating a sleek profile. Brass accents, such as a brass band outlining the doors and a brass frieze insert following the line of the furniture, add a touch of elegance. The kitchen showcases a white front with brass details, creating a sense of depth and spatiality in the small space.

Beyond the aesthetics, Mora35 is equipped with smart-home technology that allows for remote control of various functions, including lights, thermostats, roller shutters, and the heating and cooling systems. This integration of technology seamlessly blends with the timeless design, providing convenience and comfort for the residents.

The solid oak wood furniture, custom-designed for each space, adds to the timeless character of the interior. Sculptural lights and round motifs create a sense of balance and hierarchy, avoiding conflicts of dominance. The elements within the space communicate and support each other, inviting the viewer to discover their own balance in the interior.

Mora35 is a testament to the skillful integration of modern design and the preservation of heritage. The architects at Sculpta have successfully transformed a small space within a postwar building into a timeless expression of design, where simplicity, texture, and technology harmoniously coexist.
